DOMINAE NOCTURNAE E-Book | Sex Magic, Mary Magdalene, Chakra Healing, Sacred Sex, Shadow Work, Inanna, Ishtar, Babalon, Venus Magic

Marika Abaya Morido is a witch, a shaman, an astrologer, a tarot reader, and a Reiki and Sekhem healer. She is also a tantrika and a priestess of the Order of the Blue Rose. Born in Manila, Philippines – she is a yoga practitioner who loves to paint and swim. She has been a practicing occultist since she was eleven years old.

Can you tell us about your journey into the world of witchcraft and spirituality? What drew you to these practices? I think it was inevitable, because I’ve been seeing spirits since I could walk. And I always preferred them over people. I think my childhood was the worst period in my life. But I knew power is something that comes from within, and fate can be changed when we embrace ourselves and our own darkness. So I started to read about the occult and everything started to roll from there.

How did you become a shaman, and what kind of shamanic work do you specialize in? I was initiated into it before I was in high school, but it was a big secret. I did not speak of this at home because I grew up in a very religious family, so I hid the fact that I was a part of a shamanic coven. A lot of my work focuses on ancestral healing.

Tarot reading is a fascinating skill. What led you to become a tarot reader, and how do you use tarot cards to guide and assist others? I got my first tarot reading when I was 9. The lady spoke of these 4 lovers that I would have, describing their exact personalities. And it all came true! Being able to glimpse into something years ahead of time always fascinated me. A few people in my circle always say they are afraid of getting a reading from me because they think I’ll predict some death that will make them paranoid for the rest of their lives, but really the starting point is always the client. What do you want to know? The cards are there to give you answers beyond what the physical senses can discern. We can just focus on what you want to know and nothing else. The easiest way to read cards is to be in a non-judgemental flow state so you can be receptive to the messages.

You’re also an author. Can you tell us about your books and what inspired you to write them? Dominae Nocturnae is centered around… The Whore of Babylon, who is Venus. She was known to the Sumerians as Inanna, and the entire myth about her descent is a depiction of the Venus Cycle. The myth speaks of an underworld initiation that she must undergo for her own purification, and the entire cycle of Venus very much has this effect on all of us as a collective whether we consciously work with these energies or not. However, if one were to consciously work with these energies, the alchemical transformation can become powerful. So my book focuses on how you can use the different transits, such as the Venus Gates, to manifest and heal, through easy rituals that I have outlined in the book. With women specifically, we all have traumas that we have inherited especially when it comes to the inherent mystical gifts that we were born with, so a lot of the healing rituals really focus on releasing these soul wounds that are trapped in our bodies, whether these wounds stem from past lives or from our ancestors. Venus retrograde is all about reclaiming gifts that have been lost to us, but they can only be reclaimed by accepting a shamanic death. Something must be purged before something better can be attained. As for the latter half of my book, that is more focused on sex magick and sacred sexuality. The gift of sexual energy is one of the gifts that have been repressed throughout different cultures with the rise of different structures such as colonialism. Sex was placed under the category of profane, which creates a split in our psyches, but it is the repression of this energy and its magickal purpose that has created the wounding in ancestral lineages and in societies as a whole. The act of sex is very much a sacrament for the Goddess, but with her vilification, the wisdom that she taught through her priestesses have been buried, so I thought of sharing some of Her mysteries through this book.

The Astrology of Lilith & Algol is connected to Dominae, in the sense that it also focuses on the Dark Goddess and how she shows up in your chart to initiate you. The thing that stings always leads you to where you are supposed to be. With Alkemia that’s more about making planetary offerings for different intentions. I got inspired to write these books basically because this has been what I am obsessed with. Pluto is a dominant planet in my chart so I was bound to really have an intense obsession with certain things.

Many people are curious about these spiritual practices but may be hesitant. What advice do you have for those who want to explore these paths? Take your time, follow your intuition. Do not become a victim of groupthink. A witch is always solitary even when they are a part of a group, so you can be an individual and create your own path. Take the time to make an inventory of your fears. Take it slow. Once your spiritual senses open, it can be traumatic. Always think for yourself.

What misconceptions do you encounter about witchcraft, shamanism, or other spiritual practices, and how do you address them? I know some people who fear these things because they see it as a loss of autonomy once you encounter what is beyond the veil. But you learn about power through surrender. I am not into converting anyone though. It doesn’t matter in the end. You can be into it or you can be into something else. We all have our path and it is always up to people to decide what is right for them.

How do you maintain a balance between your spiritual work and the demands of daily life? I don’t. Most of the time my work takes up all of my time. But I do try to set aside time to rest. Eventually. When I am finished with what I am obsessing over. Meditating can help clear the mental chatter.

Can you provide some recommendations for books or resources for individuals interested in learning more about the subjects you specialize in? Tabula Smaragdina and The Picatrix. The original title in Arabic is Ghāyat al-Ḥakīm, which means “The Aim of the Sage” or “The Goal of the Wise”. All the Nag Hammadi texts, The Book of Enoch, The Egyptian Book of the Dead.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of your journey as a witch, shaman, astrologer, tarot reader, healer, and author? I am free. I got out of my cage. I can follow my path. I no longer feel like I have to sacrifice a big part of myself to feel safe.
