We Asked Sandra how did she start her writing career? She said… I’ve always loved to write and after I had my son I fell in love with storytelling again. Five Little fireflies came about from a song that I made up to sing along with my son. After a while, I started thinking it might be fun to turn it into a story for children and something my son would like to see come to life.
Curious we asked her what is her favorite part of the writing process? When I began working on this book, my first step was to write down the story, then I made notes on how I wanted each page to look. I also knew I wanted to include more than just the story itself, and wanted to make sure I presented the material in way that would be engaging and allow children to interact with the story. This is what gave me the idea for the puppet activity that is included in the book. Children can make each firefly their own, be creative and use the puppets to help narrate the story whether on their own or during reading time with their parents.
