Behind the Pages: The Journey of Writing Chaos: I In the Shadows and Chaos II: Road to Recovery

Interview by Book Chat Radio | Featuring Author KC

Book Chat Radio: KC, thank you for joining us. Your books Chaos: I In the Shadows and Chaos II: Road to Recovery have been both inspiring and transformative for many readers. Can you take us behind the scenes and share your personal experience of writing and publishing these two books?

KC: Thank you for having me. Writing Chaos: I In the Shadows and Chaos II: Road to Recovery was an emotional journey that forced me to confront my inner demons. It all began one night after a therapy session when I was sitting alone in my living room. I felt the presence of the Most High telling me it was time to share my story. That’s when I knew I had to write about my experiences. As I wrote Chaos: In the Shadows, everything I had learned in therapy over eight years started to make sense. I finally understood why knowing who you are as a person is so important.

Writing allowed me to unpack the anger and pain I had built up since childhood. I grew up with a lot of chaos, and that affected how I viewed relationships and life in general. I didn’t realize until much later that my behavior was a product of my upbringing, and therapy helped me understand that. It also helped me see that my parents weren’t bad people—they were just doing the best they could with what they knew, just as their parents did before them. Writing this book gave me the strength to break that cycle of chaos and want better for my wife and children.

The experience of publishing, on the other hand, was challenging. As a self-published author, I had to navigate the industry on my own. Finding a trustworthy company to help me publish was tough, especially when I was investing my own money. There was always the fear that no one would ever read my books, but I kept going because my desire to help others drove me. I knew that my story could inspire people to realize that anything is possible, even if they’re struggling.

I’ve had my triumphs, though. I’ve overcome myself and faced the demons that once controlled my life. I’ve found faith in the Most High again and learned to live with my mental health challenges. Becoming a self-published author has connected me with therapists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals, and that’s something I’m incredibly proud of. Purchase on Amazon

Book Chat Radio: Your books explore personal transformation in such a raw and honest way. What valuable lessons and insights can readers gain from Chaos: I and Chaos II to begin their own journey of transformation?

KC: One of the biggest lessons readers can gain from my books is the importance of self-forgiveness. Through all the pain and chaos, I realized that the key to moving forward is forgiving yourself for past mistakes. Without self-forgiveness, it’s difficult to break free from the patterns that hold us back. Another important lesson is to understand that healing is a process—it takes time, effort, and a willingness to face the truth about yourself.

The Chaos series also emphasizes the importance of recognizing that your upbringing doesn’t define you. Yes, it shapes who you are, but you have the power to change the course of your life. Breaking generational curses, as I like to call it, is essential if you want to create a healthier future for yourself and your family. Therapy was crucial for me in understanding these things, and I encourage anyone who’s struggling to seek help. You don’t have to go through this journey alone.

Lastly, I’ve learned that faith and trust in the Most High can guide you through even the darkest times. My faith helped me find peace and clarity, and it reminded me that no matter how far I strayed, I was never truly alone.

Book Chat Radio: That’s such powerful insight. As someone who has been through such a transformative journey, what are your top recommended books for personal growth and recovery?

KC: To be honest, outside of my own books Chaos: In the Shadows and Chaos: Road to Recovery, the only book I would truly recommend for personal growth and recovery is the Holy Bible. It’s been a guiding light for me throughout my journey, helping me find faith, hope, and direction.

I haven’t read many self-help books, but I do enjoy reading in general. My favorite authors are Stephen King and Mick Foley, though their books are more entertaining than self-help material. That said, I’ve taken several classes that were instrumental in my recovery journey, and I’d recommend them to anyone looking to improve themselves. These classes include:

  • Anger Management
  • Advocacy for Positive Outcome
  • Wellness and Empowerment for Living
  • Medication for Success

These courses have helped me gain a better understanding of myself and my mental health, and they’ve given me the tools to build a healthier, happier life.

Book Chat Radio: Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us, KC. Your story and your books are sure to inspire many others to take that first step toward healing and transformation.

KC: Thank you for having me. I hope my story can help others see that no matter where they are in life, there’s always a way forward.
